Our Story
Making it quality and affordable.
Dream it.
Our story of how we began our hobby/business, begins in May 2019 with Jon completing a successful 47 year career in Dentistry after retiring with 25 years in the United States Air Force plus an additional 8 years of private dental practice and 14 years of teaching at University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Jon was ready to find a new avenue to incorporate some of his acquired hand skills and extensive knowledge of wire and metals he could channel this into a new hobby/business making hand crafted wired jewelry. Armed with a dream he set out to grow over time this fledgling hobby/business capitalizing on his resolve to never shy away from a challenge and tapping into his tenacious determination to succeed. He has learned to create beautiful uniquely designed wire jewelry pieces. He is constantly challenging his ability to create jewelry that is distinctively his own style so the wearer can know the piece of jewelry that they bought is a one-of-a-kind. Jon tries to never be a cookie cutter producer of all the same pieces so commonly seen in handcrafted jewelry. His desire is to be an artisan with wire bringing out the beauty and story of the rock and stones used in his wirework. A devoted minimalist in his use of wire, trying never to overshadow the uniqueness of stones he uses from all over the world.
Building it.
Jon asked his youngest daughter, Natalie (Michelle), to join with him incorporating her beading with his wire work by combining their creative abilities and unique artistry styles they begin to grow their home grown business in 2020. Their mission is create affordable high quality handmade wire jewelry that can be worn for any occasion. Consistently they have developed a unique line of wire and bead jewelry that has attracted an ever growing following of patrons of all ages. They incorporated Jon’s wife and Michelle’s mom, Martha, as the head of our marketing. As a truly small family business named JonMichélle Designs, they will always be focused on continued growth just as they did through their first major hurdle, a world wide pandemic starting in April of 2020 and going through April of 2021. Jon and Michelle began building their inventory and looking at avenues to bring their products to a larger audience. Looking first to local craft shows initially, and when COVID eased up in April 2021 they scheduled their first craft show in Oklahoma City. It went very well and they had established a start of loyal patrons and followers of our jewelry.
Growing it.
We have been growing ever since starting their own small family hobby/business. They have continued to provide a number of unique products of wearable artisan jewelry; I.e. necklaces and earrings. They sought assistance from other members of our family by asking Jon’s son, Jonathan, and his wife, Danyel, to be consultants on marketing. Jonathan was integral in designing our marketing logo and marketing design ideas to help establish our brand. Michelle’s spouse, Justin, is a consultant on financial concerns for our new and growing family company. Jon decided early in 2021 that with a pandemic we had a limited access to a larger audience to see our products; we needed to get out of the box and look to some aspect media marketing avenues to get others to know about our family business. In Fall of 2021 we established a Facebook page for our business, where Martha and Michelle could begin to contact our followers and announce upcoming shows in our area here in Oklahoma City. This was our fledgling start of our forays into other online media. Jon began thinking of using the internet for sales and establishing a web site. We already had set up a square app for facilitating sales at shows, but by incorporating a Etsy Site for handling sales and a web site we would continue to grow in 2021 when we had our first craft shows. We were met with great interest in being able to have our jewelry available online for people to access information about our new creations and to find out about our future show locations that would be scheduled.
Sharing it.
Consistent growth has been good since our inception in summer of 2019. Slow growth was a fact that every business had to deal with during the pandemic’s impact that limited venues to provide our handcrafted wire jewelry to only a very small audience. We continued to develop new and unique styles of affordable luxury jewelry at affordable prices. We moved our hobby/business to Yukon with Jon’s and his wife, Martha, to Spanish Cove Retirement Community in Yukon, Oklahoma, which is closer to Michelle and easier for her to work with Jon. This move opened up a whole new audience for our jewelry in the area where we moved. We continued to utilize our Facebook and Etsy presence, but Jon had worked hard at setting up a web site presence that he felt would be an asset to display and channel our patrons to our sale site on Etsy. He developed this web site and it came online in January 2021. We now had a way to expand with a continuous 24/7 access and consistent opportunity for people who heard about us could view our newest creations and also for all our wonderful followers and patrons. This was a way to keep followers and patrons up with our growing line of jewelry designs, that Facebook and Etsy just did not allow. They are used by many to do everything from showcasing, marketing, communications, and selling, but they are awkward and don’t allow easy navigation to find a specific item, and unfortunately are cold and not very personable like this web site. We also purchased in January 2021 our web site’s permanent Domain URL of JonMichelleDesigns.com for JonMichelleDesigns. Jon worked hard to make our site personable and interactive so our followers and patrons can keep up with our contact information and reach out and connect with us. We continue to have a face to face presence for sales at shows, because we feel this is very important to get to know our followers and patrons that come back to visit with and purchase our jewelry at our craft shows. We always enjoy visiting with each of you at our shows and getting to hear how much you enjoy wearing your purchases. It is a complement to us that you wear our jewelry and people who see it and recognize that it is unique and want to know where you got it. Your referrals to us and our jewelry is greatly appreciated and is so much easier using our web site to send your friends and acquaintances to see our jewelry.
Involve others in it.
Our move in 2021 to a constant online presence has allowed us to provide our followers and patrons with a level of continuity that flows seamlessly between our JonMichelleDesigns site on Etsy and our jonmichelledesigns web site. Allowing everyone who visits our web site the ability to go to our Etsy Site to see more information about a particular jewelry item, check the price, and it they desire go ahead and purchase the item. Once they complete their visit on our Etsy site they can click the back arrow to return directly to our jonmichelledesign web site. We are able to utilize the excellence of Etsy for sales, and their notification of sale completion for us to be able to provide our seamless delivery directly to the purchaser of the item they have purchased. We have been able to provide our followers and patrons of all our upcoming scheduled shows by posting them in our Shows area on this website. Most importantly our designs are shared effortlessly with any of your family members, friends, and neighbors without them having to navigate to or be required to have an Etsy or Facebook account. Our patrons and followers can get to know us and our mission online, and have the ability to interact with us, and be kept up with what is happening in our business. Our site has galleries of our products available to be seen before our shows. The New Gallery, is comprised of some of our newest designs as they are rolled out of our design studio that will be available at upcoming shows. It is an opportunity to get to have a first look at them before they go on sale. In the In-Stock & Novelty & Last Look Galleries, we showcase all our necklaces and earrings that are currently available. All items listed will may not be available for sale because of upcoming shows, our online Etsy Sale site will not be connected during the time period of two weeks before a show and until approximately two weeks after a show for us to re-inventory our jewelry items after a craft show. You can easily tell if an item is not for sale on the Etsy page connection because the web site will not allow the information on that item to show until the item can be removed from the web site due if it is sold. We will reopen the connection when all items are re-inventoried and verified as available for sale. If you come and cannot find out information or connect to Etsy purchase site please check back frequently until the site is fully open to see if you still can purchase the item you want if It is not sold at show.
Sharing it. Selling it. Supporting our community.
We are very proud of our online presence @ jonmichelledesigns.com and our www.JonMichelleDesigns/Shop/etsy.com that allows our patrons to share our unique hand-crafted jewelry with a much bigger audience than we could by involving their family, friends, and neighbors. We provide this seamless way to see and purchase our jewelry online on our web site and Etsy sales site. We have worked to make this an absolutely seamless process. We have received from both patrons and followers great reviews and comments about our jewelry designs. Many subscribing to receive emails and Facebook notifications about our products and upcoming shows. From our first design in 2019 to April 2025, we have created 685+ uniquely distinct jewelry designs. We are constantly searching for new and unique styles of jewelry to do with wire and beads. Jon’s wife has worn our jewelry as we visited many places with our travel clubs in the past 4 years. Many of our online sales have come from these areas where we gave out our business cards. We have received pictures from patrons who have purchased our jewelry, and love it so much that they took pictures of themselves wearing it on trips. If you wear our jewelry we would love to have a picture of you wearing it on your special trip. Since we began tracking traffic to our Etsy sale site and web site in 2021, we found that 20% of our traffic to our Etsy sale site was from people who went directly to Etsy, but a pleasant surprise was that 80% of our traffic is directly to our Etsy Sale Site from our web site. Over the past 4 years our Etsy sales site have accounted for 21% of our total sales. Our Etsy site has a 5 star rating for the service we provided in sales and delivery of our online purchases. We have had sales in 14 states from our Etsy Sales site.. As a local Oklahoma City (OKC) Business, we are committed to paying back to our community. We are strongly mission minded and participate in a few local church craft shows that support their missions efforts from show booth fees. We participate in The Church of The Servant Earth Glow Holiday Craft Market and First United Methodist Church Heart of Yukon Craft Fair both with worthwhile ministries in OKC area. Our largest Craft Show, The Santa Market , supports the Local OKC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Additionally, we give 20% of our proceeds there to the Alzheimers Association. We appreciate each and every person who supports us by buying our designs at these and other venues. We hope that you would join us and give to help support the Alzheimer’s Association through our Take Action page.
